God damn it, why is EDI so dumb in ME3?

Since when are the reapers “devoted to nothing but self-preservation”? Aren’t they about keeping order in the galaxy and preserving other life even if that costs them their lives? They exterminated countless cycles leaving only the most primitive races behind, if self-preservation was what they wanted, there was nothing to stop them from completely obliterating the lesser life-forms as well and ensuring no one could ever rise to hurt them. Hell, each cycle they leave the safety of dark space to engage in battle with the entire galaxy. Sure, they’re the superior force, but there’s the risk of some casualties on their side too.

I think you’re considering knowledge you only know prior to speaking to the catalyst. EDI does not have that knowledge. All she has is things like Sovereign saying they’re forcing evolution along paths so that they might harvest them. The prothean VI Vendetta says roughly the same thing. The catalyst is the only thing that says that the reapers are working to conserve life in their own twisted, messed up way. Until then, it really does look like the reapers are wiping out all organics so that they don’t destroy the machines. I also don’t think the reapers are that concerned with casualties. The only two instances of dead reapers (aside from the ones Shepard has killed) are millions of years old.

Either way, wiping out civilizations to prevent them from killing each other is pretty dumb, and EDI disagrees with it.

Oh right, we have no idea why reapers reap at that point. Man, I can’t keep this story straight in my head anymore.
